Wednesday followed the same theme as Tuesday except that whereas yesterday, with the exception of eating 3 big meals, I was to do precisely nothing, today it was allowed to do almost nothing. Which at least gives me an opportunity to tell you that following doing a little washing of my clothes and myself I can bear my own company a little better than yesterday. My feet have enjoyed seeing the light of day for the first time in several days and my tan-coloured trekking trousers are at least close to that colour.
Other than that there is nothing to recount.
The mountains around us are truly awesome in their hugeness and beauty and the frequency with which avalanches sweep down their sides is a reminder of their power to destroy as well as enchant.
The moraine on which our camp is situated is as blasted a rock-scape as it was yesterday although the passage of time and feet has at least enabled us to know the least precipitous and slippery passage between tent, foot and toilet. What more is thee to be known?
The weather continues the pattern of being scorching hot in the morning, grey and cool at midday and progressively cold and windy in the afternoon, to bitter overnight. The time between being freezing cold and roasting hot in one's tent in the morning continues to be measured in seconds rather than minutes.
There is still no 3G so this blog, lovingly and studiously created, will be unread for unknown days to come.
Actually there is something more. Today a new loo tent was erected. The previous drab brown much holed tent whose zip closed only sufficiently to hide the face of the occupant leaving other aspects of identity open to speculation was removed without ceremony. In its place now stands a shiny new blue construction whose zip glides a full traverse without effort. Of course the hardware within remains unchanged and the mental effort required to lower one's warm parts to its sub-zero oft yellow-iced surface is still Herculean, but at least the occupants can wince in privacy. Such are the simple pleasures that define life in Everest Base Camp.
There is another chapter to add to this blog, dependent upon a certain outcome that I can't share with you at this time.
